The haunt has often made its way around horror-based TV shows, due to its reputation for being one of the most extreme haunted houses in existence. There are plenty of rules that visitors must follow before they’re even allowed to enter, such as no pregnant women, no children and no anyone with a heart condition. If that’s not enough to scare you off, the Manor is also known for its extremely interactive environment, where actors often get right up in your face.
2) The Mortuary: New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
The Mortuary in New Orleans is located right across the French Quarter. This haunted house has two stories of horror that are literally stacked on top of each other to provide one big scare for visitors. Countless people have described being so scared while here, they’ve soil themselves…right there in front of everyone. If you go, be prepared for some intense scares in a very realistic setting.
3) The Darkness: St. Louis, Missouri, USA
The Darkness is located in the heart of downtown St. Louis and has been scaring people since 1995. This haunted house is full of all kinds of different frights, from demonic dolls to dismembered corpses. There are also plenty of Hollywood-style special effects, which is why this haunt has become so popular over the years.
4) Erebus: Pontiac, Michigan, USA
Pontiac, Michigan is home to one of the World’s Scariest Haunted Houses: Erebus. This haunt takes visitors through four different levels and even boasts a World Record. It was the longest haunted house at 374,627 square feet and took 13 people four years to build. Most of the haunt is indoors, but there are also some outdoor scenes for visitors who can brave the cold during October.
5) House of Torment: Austin, Texas, USA
House of Torment is located in the heart of downtown Austin and has been terrifying people for over a decade now. Fans describe both the outdoor and indoor haunted house as “some insanely scary things.” There are plenty of different frights to experience here, from an Alice Cooper who sends you through a maze to a room filled with over 1,000 live snakes. All in all, it’s a pretty terrifying experience.
6) The Dent Schoolhouse: Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
The Dent Schoolhouse is located right on the outskirts of downtown Cincinnati and is open throughout October every year. This World’s Scariest Haunted House claims to be “the most haunted schoolhouse in the world” and is full of all kinds of different scares. There are ghosts, ghouls, zombies and plenty of other spooky characters that make an appearance in this haunt.
7) The 13th Gate: Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA
The 13th Gate in Baton Rouge is arguably one of the most detailed haunted houses in the world. There are plenty of different scenes to experience, all while being surrounded by state-of-the-art special effects. Actors are also known for being very interactive and often make use of props and animatronics to really scare visitors.
8) Tulsa Hex House: Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
Oklahoma is home to one World’s Scariest Haunted Houses in the form of Tulsa Hex House. This haunted attraction has two separate scenes to experience, with its second being built over an actual cemetery. There are plenty of celebrities who have gone through this haunt before and most visitors describe it as having some truly terrifying scenes that will scare you out of this World.
9) Lost Souls Alley: Kraków, Poland
Lost Souls Alley is located in the heart of downtown Kraków, Poland. This World’s Scariest Haunted House features hundreds of different scenes for visitors to experience and there are plenty of props and animatronics hidden around every corner. There are also some pretty terrifying characters who come out at night, including one called “Slasher Man” who is sure to give you a good scare.
10) Haunted Plantation: Waipahu, Hawaii, USA
The Haunted Plantation is located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii and is open throughout October every year. This World’s Scariest Haunted House is home to all kinds of different frights, including a section where you have to walk through a dark forest filled with zombies. There are also plenty of other haunted houses on the island, such as Creepy World and The Bloodshed Factory.
11) Super Scary Labyrinth of Fear: Yokohama, Japan
Considered as Japan’s longest and scariest haunted house, the Super Scary Labyrinth of Fear has something to scare everyone. You’ll have to navigate inside an abandoned hospital, and roam around almost 1km of creepy hallways, gruesome operating rooms and haunted wards.
The haunted house is inspired by a true-life tale about a hospital where doctors began taking organs from their patients. You’ll be chased down by a mad doctor wielding a bloody scalpel, and have to try to escape from the clutches of a chainsaw-wielding psycho.
