James Wan is the famous Malaysian-born Australian director of the movies Saw, Dead Silence, Insidious, Death Sentence, The Conjuring, Insidious: Chapter 2, and Furious 7. James Wan is also set to direct The Conjuring 2 which will be released in 2016.
JAMES WAN’S FILM CAREER
James Wan’s first directing gig was for the film Stygian (2004), which received the Best Guerilla Film award at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.
The film Saw started as a script which Wan co-rote with Leigh Hanell. The two men chose an excerpt from the said script and shot the movie based on it. The movie was a huge success that it was followed by a sequel, Saw II, and led to the development of more movies under the Saw franchise.
The release of saw was followed by Dead Silence in 2007 which was meant to be a fall back in case Saw was unable to hit the box office. That same year, the film Death Sentence came out which unlike its predecessor, was more of a thriller crime movie than horror.
In 2010, Insidious was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. Sony Pictures bought the film and the movie hit American theaters in 2011 where it turned out to be a box office hit.
The Conjuring, which was released in 2013, was another movie directed by Wan that was positively received by its viewers. As soon as Wan was done in directing the movie, he set on right away in making the sequel to Insidious. Then in September 2013, Insidious: Chapter 2 was shown in theaters.
In 2013, Wan was also slated to be the director of Fast and Furious 7. The movie was also a huge hit when it came out in theaters in 2015 and the most successful in the box office compared to the other Fast and Furious movies.
In 2014, it was announced that Wan would be directing The Conjuring 2 while a year after, it was reported that he was also slated to direct Aquaman and Robotech.
Aside from being a director, Wan also works as producer and screenwriter. Some of the movies that he produced were Demonic which came out in 2014 and Annabelle, the spin-off movie of The Conjuring.
